Athletes in Action hosted its second annual Night of Champions at their World Training and Resource Center in Xenia, Ohio, on May 8.
Designed to celebrate former and current athletes and coaches who lead lives of courage, character and commitment, the Night of Champions featured numerous special guests. In attendance were former Ohio State and NFL quarterback Craig Krenzel, former Cincinnati Bengal Anthony Muñoz, North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, and Ohio State MVP and CBS college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg.
A highlight of this event is the induction into the Athletes in Action "Hall of Faith" of two chosen representatives from the athletic world who exhibit exemplary character in their particular sport, in their family and in their community.
This year's award winners were UCLA basketball coaching legend John Wooden and Olympic gold medalist Madeline Manning-Mims.
"I would much rather be in a Hall of Faith than a Hall of Fame," said Wooden, who was not able to attend but accepted his award via pre-recorded video.
Manning-Mims won a gold medal in the 1968 Olympics in the 800-meter dash. That same year she was interviewed for winning and setting a new world record. When asked who got the glory for her win, she clearly responded.
"There was only one answer for me: I'm running for Jesus," said Manning-Mims.
Muñoz and Yow were inducted in the Athletes in Action "Hall of Faith" last year at the inaugural Night of Champions.
Attendance at the event totaled 589, with four individuals indicating decisions to place their faith in Christ after Kellogg presented the gospel.
The Night of Champions event is an AIA Sports Legends Series event.
