Imagine being on a safari in South Africa, playing basketball in Zimbabwe, communicating the gospel with hundreds of kids in Brazil, and mentoring college students in their faith on the beach in Hawaii. These are just a few of the opportunities that Athletes in Action has given me.
I have been exposed to AIA for the past nineteen years due to my dad, Terry Field, coaching AIA men's basketball teams on international tours. Through my parents' involvement with AIA our family was given a foundation in life for imparting God's love to others throughout the world.
After graduating from high school in Covington, Indiana, I attained a long-time goal by receiving a scholarship to play tennis at Olivet Nazarene University. During my sophomore year God revealed Himself to me in a way that dramatically changed my life. I had accepted Christ at a young age, but it was during this time that I took hold of my faith and made Jesus Lord of my life. Soon after, I was baptized and God has been changing me everyday since. During the summer of 2001 I attended the AIA Ultimate Training Camp in Fort Collins, Colorado, and it was here that I truly learned how to combine my two passions-God and sports.
After graduating from Olivet, I went on a five-month internship with AIA experiencing various aspects of the ministry. I spent one month working at AIA Headquarters in Xenia, Ohio, one month playing on a women's basketball tour in South Africa and Zimbabwe, and three months at the University of Hawaii working with Mike and Alison Buchanan.
Not only has AIA influenced me as an individual, but it brought me together with my best friend and husband, Jeremy Treat. In 2000, Jeremy was placed on a last second AIA basketball team to Africa that "just happened" to be with my parents and brother. We met during the week of training camp in Indiana and were married five years later! During the spring of 2005, Jeremy and I took our youth group on a mission trip to Brazil to work with AIA staff, Rogerio and Susan Soares.
AIA has been a huge part of my life and has helped me become the person I am today.
I'm currently living in Seattle, Washington, working at The Mosaic Company and pursuing a Master's in Teaching at Seattle Pacific University while doing youth ministry with my husband. Through AIA I've learned to incorporate God into every aspect of my life.
