The Proposal Day

Chelsey: It was another average Friday at the office and I was looking forward to a fun-filled weekend on a date (or two or three!) with Andy.

Andy: Friday?!?  How was I going to get through this day that I had been working so hard to prepare for? Interacting with Chelsey was so hard to keep composed. If anyone was going to screw this up, it was me. I'd told a few people about my upcoming plans and in my excitement realized I needed to stop talking about it around her.

CG: After work we headed to my apartment to freshen up before meeting his friends, David and Jill, for dinner.

AG: The day at the office was finally over, and after running around all day putting together the last minute details, all I could do was trust that my six cohorts were ready to execute the plan.

CG: His friend David called to say he and Jill were stuck in traffic and were running late. Then Andy got a call from Mark, his supervisor at work, asking if we could run back through AIA headquarters to quickly check on a computer server before the weekend.

AG:  As I stood in Chelsey's bathroom putting on a wireless microphone, David called to say there was an issue at the proposal site, and I needed to stall. I was able to kill some time by taking a bit longer to get ready, and then Mark called to have me "check on a server."

CG:  The phone call to run to the office was not uncommon so we headed back to AIA and since my apartment was nearby, I didn't mind.

AG:  This was it. They better be ready for us. Chelsey asked if she should stay in the car. (No!)

CG:  We headed downstairs to the network room that houses all the servers and as we approached the door, I noticed the windows were covered with paper. I thought it was strange and shot Andy a glance. Little did I know that my life was about to change in the next moment.

AG:  I remember getting to the door and seeing her surprised look at the paper over the window. She never saw it coming.

CG:  The servers in the room weren't the only things on. Andy had a CD player with one of our significant songs playing, a vase of roses, the cross that symbolizes our story of brokenness and a sign. Since this was the place I first told him that I loved him one day at lunch in October (yes, I know, not the most romantic spot--until now), I thought this was the place where he would ask me to marry him but the sign indicated there was more elsewhere. The sign said, "Come Thou Fount" which led us outside to the old fountain in front of the building. There was a path of 80 candles in Mason jars lighting our way. As the cold winter wind took our breath away and the huge flag above us whipped in the wind, Andy led me around the circle to show me eight frames each with a picture of us and a word to represent God's design for our relationship. On the last one Andy got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I replied, "I would be honored!"

AG:  After celebrating with her, the first question she asked was, "Do you have pictures of this scene?" Gladly I replied, "Yes, I have a microphone on and am recording this on video." Then my cohorts all appeared from behind the bushes to celebrate with us.

CG:  The evening still wasn't over as Andy arranged for both of our families to be waiting on us at my favorite restaurant in downtown Dayton. Thinking we had reservations for the two of us, I was quite surprised to see everyone greeting us as we came around the corner to be seated. Andy out-did himself with intricate details from start to finish. That is a day I will never forget.
