I’m sure you’ve heard someone ask the question, have you ever started climbing the supposed ladder of success only to find upon reaching the top that the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall?
It reminds me that the necessary ingredients of passion and work ethic are not enough if we want to get where we should, could and need to go. But when heart-engaged passion and tenacious work ethic are coupled with meaningful purpose and intentional direction, we are positioned to become more of who God wants us to be and do the things He created us to accomplish.
Paul says it this way: For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Eph. 2:10). Paul realized that being a follower of Christ really is as simple (and yet equally profound) as daily, moment by moment dependence on Him. It involves an ongoing yield to God and submission to His will and purpose for our lives. In Christ we have all we need (we are secure and satisfied in Him). As a result, our meaningful purpose is to tell others about Him (both verbally and through the voice of our lives). Our intentional direction is to faithfully follow Him.
As you think about your current life path are you headed in a direction that will get you where you want to go? What factors are currently driving your overall life direction? Is it personal recognition, applause from your peers, personal wealth or a corporate job title?
Take each day and give it your all to make Him known and know Him more intimately through passionate pursuit. God’s wisdom dispensed through the “least of the apostles” reminds and encourages us to always push forward. We do not “arrive” (reach spiritual maturity) this side of heaven. We simply seek to grow in our reflection of the One we pursue.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold for me (Phil. 3:12).
Continue to walk by faith and trust God for those things, that when they happen, can only be attributed to HIM!
