Highlights: In the Field

Read below to find out what’s going on “in the field.” These are ministry highlights from the months of July/August.

On our women’s basketball tour to France, I had the opportunity to sit down with a family who had come to all our games (mom, dad and three children) and share the gospel with them via a translator. In fact, they were some of our biggest fans. After the third game, I learned that they had been staying up late at night discussing the peace and joy they felt when they were with our team. They had never experienced anything like it. After our final game, three of us (including a translator) sat in their living room and explained the gospel to them. They all prayed to receive Christ a few days after our team left and are meeting with our contact there for Bible study!

For the entire month of August I did writer’s training with Worldwide Challenge (Campus Crusade magazine) down in Orlando. The time was rich in learning tricks and skills in writing—how to ask great questions, how to connect with the reader, how to use style to format the story and more. It was a great time of learning, stretching and growing, as I continually become more equipped (and passionate) to better share the changed-life stories within AIA. Some great partnering relationships with the magazine staff were formed that will continue into the future; I am able to send them story ideas and ask “writing questions” on a weekly basis.

After having a great summer tour in Brazil, I felt led to spend more time at the University of Cincinnati football training camp at the Higher Ground Camp in Indiana. I was there for seven of the eleven nights and had some remarkable conversations with players that I had never spoken with before. The UC team met every evening for a team meeting and I made a quick announcement about a Bible study for any interested players that would happen at the end of the meeting. After the dust settled of players leaving, around 35 stayed for the Bible study. The same thing happened 5 days later. I have to believe that spending the extra time with the team had a lot to do with their willingness to come to the Bible study. Really looking forward to seeing what God will do next as we spend time building up spiritual leaders on the team.
