Our energy use comes mainly from the electricity we use in our buildings. To drive energy efficiency measures at our LEED certified buildings, we install LED lighting, automatic sensors, and intelligent controllers in our air conditioning systems.
Total energy consumption across the Group was 88,595,892 kWh. Energy intensity per employee was reported at 3,827 kWh.

Our Green Building Portfolio
At AIA we incorporate green standards as a part of the design concept for all our real estate development projects, ensuring environmental principles are ‘built in’ and not included as an afterthought. As a mark of their sustainable quality, a number of our buildings spanning across Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, China, Indonesia and the Philippines have been awarded various green building awards: Gold or Silver certification by LEED for Hong Kong, Thailand and China; LEED pre-certification for Philippines; The Building Construction Authority (“BCA”) Green Mark for Singapore and GBCI certification for Indonesia. Through our buildings we also provide our tenants the option of renting low carbon and resource efficient spaces, thereby reducing their carbon footprint.
Our portfolio of Green/LEED buildings spans the region in Hong Kong, China, Thailand and the Philippines.
As spaces within our buildings are leased, AIA plays a broader role in conserving energy use and in providing resource efficient operational spaces to tenants. Our Hong Kong operations go a step further by conducting energy audits periodically and encouraging tenants to self-assess their energy consumption and to reduce energy.
Managing Our Emissions
Our direct emission footprint consists mainly of emissions from our electricity usage. Since our energy use and carbon footprint are closely connected, efforts to minimise our operational energy use have a significant impact on our emission footprint.
